Ne me quitte pas – Please Don’t Go Away (1959)

';

Jacques Brel – the French chansonnier who was actually Belgian, a true Fleming from the flat countryside, which he hated, because its flatness made the bigotry, hypocrisy and malice of the petty bourgeois stand out all the more clearly. Jacques Brel could not bear that.

‘NE ME QUITTE PAS’ from 1959 was the most famous song by Jacques Brel,

Many see an autobiography in this song, but Brel said the opposite: It is rather about self-pity in men.

Marlene Dietrich sang the song ‘PLEASE DON’T GO AWAY’ as her career was coming to an end.

I personally have the impression that this ending was difficult for her.
